Northern Michigan Children's Assessment Center is pleased to announce the 11th Annual Higgins Lake Sunrise Run featuring a half-marathon race round the east side of beautiful Higgins Lake. All proceeds benefit the Northern Michigan Children's Assessment Center who's Mission is is to reduce the trauma of child abuse and neglect by providing prevention, intervention and advocacy.There is no better investment. Each year over 300 children will be referred to the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center (NMCAC) in response to suspected abuse. The vast majority of these cases involve sexual assault. NMCAC provides a safe, child friendly, neutral place for a forensic interview utilizing national standard best practices to protect the innocent, provide a multidisciplinary approach and ensure that children’s best interests are represented. These cases are the worst of the worst on the tragic scale of child abuse severity. Staff members are highly-trained subject matter experts, specializing in forensic interviewing, case coordination, advocacy, therapy, pediatrics and nursing. These services are all offered under one roof at no cost through a portfolio of grants and donations totaling over $700,000 each year, of which, direct donations will make up over 16%. The 10th Annual Cipriano Classic will take place on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Farmington Family YMCA. The race will start at 7 p.m. with a welcome and stretches beginning around 6:45 p.m. This event uses chip timing, by EnMotive-Michigan, and results are posted in 5- year-age groups. Rather than provide age group awards, we choose to donate every dollar to the Cipriano Children's Trust. You will remember your experience at this event and return as family.
