2024 KJ's 5K for Mental Health and Animal Rescue
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT
Portage Lakes State Park, Beach Parking Lot
Run/Walk
KJ's 5k is a fun run/walk held on the natural surfaced trails at Portage Lakes State Park. The chip-timed run includes a t-shirt if registered by the deadline, medals for all finishers, prizes for First Second and Third place Adult male & female, and First Second and third for youth. There will also be prizes for the largest team, and the fastest team (calculated based on the top 5 finishers on each team). This is a family friendly and pet-friendly event, so bring the kids and dog for a fun morning in nature. The event is rain-or-shine. Because the 5k is completely off-road and on natural surfaced trails, crosses sand, and crosses several boardwalks, care must be taken on the trail, particularly after or during rain, and the course is difficult for strollers or people with limited mobility. read more…

8:00 AM CDT
The Plant in Downtown Dothan
Run
On Saturday, October 19, the Southeast Health Foundation will welcome cancer survivors and supporters back to The Plant in downtown Dothan for the 16th annual Champions of Hope! The event creates a one-of-a-kind opportunity for people who have faced or are facing cancer to connect as a community and celebrate milestones with family, friends, physicians, and care providers who support them every step of the way. The celebration is open to everyone whose life has been touched by cancer, regardless of where they were treated. Let's #LOVEDOTHAN and come together as a community to support each other. Highlights include the non-competitive Molly's Mile walk and a chip-timed 5K or 10K throughout historic downtown Dothan, special commemorative event t-shirts, and finisher medals for all participants, roving entertainment, activities for the family, local vendors, and inspiring speakers. Raising more than one million dollars since its inception in 2008, proceeds from Champions of Hope help expand cancer services, programs, and patient support in our community.
