Stretching Vs. Warming Up

Stretching is important to prevent injury and maintain flexibility. When you do your stretching is an important factor of the effectiveness.

Static stretching should be avoided at all costs before doing a physical activity. Static stretching is actually more likely to add to injury. Static stretching should be done outside of physical activity. Whether that means after activity or at a time when you do not plan on doing physical activity right after stretching.

Stretching should be used to develop flexibility not something to be rushed.

Warming up

Warming up should be used before physical activity. A warm up will begin to increase heart rate and increase blood flow. It gets your muscles going and less prone to injury.

A warm up can be an easy jog, jumping jacks, dynamic stretching or speed walking.
